Apple has confirmed that after a 40 hour investigation they have found that certain celebrity accounts were compromised and that celebrity photos were stolen. This confirms some of the rumors going around the internet that over 100 celebrities’ accounts had been hacked and their nude photos were stolen from iPhone accounts.
The Good News
According to Apple’s official statement, the hacking was not a result of breaches to iCloud or Find my iPhone services. This is good news for us non-celebrities because it means that if you have a strong password and your not that popular, you probably have not been compromised.
The Bad News
It seems that the celebrities’ accounts were compromised due to weak passwords. So what does all this have to do with WordPress? This means that if a hacker wants to target your WordPress website’s admin account and you have not implemented a strong password, the odds are that your WordPress site will be compromised.
How to Strengthen your WordPress Site’s Admin Passwords
1) Do not have admin accounts with the name “admin” or “administrator”
2) Change the WordPress passwords for all administrator accounts at least every 3 months.
3) Always use strong passwords that are at least 8 characters long and include a lower case letter, an upper case letter, a number, and a special symbol. Do not use dictionary words for your passwords. An example of a strong password is Psktk093@ For more strong WordPress password tips and other ways to harden WordPress, refer to these WordPress Security guidelines.
